92. KARENA & BOBBY ON HOW TO NAVIGATE VALENTINE’S DAY IF YOU’RE FEELING TRIGGERED

While Valentine's Day is a celebration of love and affection, it can also stir a whirlwind of emotions for many, particularly those dealing with PTSD, anxiety, or depression. It's like Mother's Day or Father's Day; there’s a variety of different experiences and feelings people face. The reality is, these holidays can be triggering and hard to navigate.

That’s why we’ve done our research, and in this episode, Bobby and I are sharing three tips for coping with our feelings and emotions this holiday from Dr. Cortney Warren’s book, Letting Go Of Your Ex. We also share stories from our first date and Valentine’s Day, giving some ideas for celebrating love without causing financial stress, and embracing simple yet profound ways to make those around us feel loved.

Three Tips for Coping With Our Feelings and Emotions Surrounding Valentine’s Day

  1. Celebrate all of the love in your life: Celebrate all of the love you experience, not just that of a mate. We’re talking about self-love, which is really important. Consider all of the positive love in your life - friends, pets, children, etc. - and remember that Valentine’s Day can and should be about love in general.

  2. Celebrate Valentine’s Day creatively: A lot of the time with Valentine’s Day, if you’re with someone, it can be a financial stress and you don’t necessarily need to go out to that expensive dinner that costs hundreds of dollars. You don’t have to go on a trip and get a hotel room - getting creative doesn’t cost a lot and reduces your financial stress. The beauty of gift-giving is in the intention and simply wanting to do something special for someone you love.

  3. Be honest with yourself and others: It’s all too easy to get caught up in the hype of romantic greeting cards and social media. Focus on what you can tell someone in an authentic way. What can you tell this person today that means something? “I’m grateful for you and my life,” or “I hope to celebrate my love for you for years to come” are more realistic - but still romantic - messages that lead to less disappointment or triggering feelings in the long run.

We hope to bring a smile to your face and remind you that you're not alone in your journey. Whether you're celebrating, reflecting, or just trying to get through the day, this episode is a reminder that every emotion is valid and that there are ways to navigate through them.

We love you, we're here for you, and remember, you are never alone. Happy Valentine's Day! And don't forget to share this podcast with someone who might appreciate our stories and tips, or who simply needs a little lift today.
