National Mental Wellness Month: A Gentle Invitation to Begin Within

January marks National Mental Wellness Month, a time to pause, reflect, and intentionally tend to our mental and emotional well-being as we step into a new year.

At The Big Silence, I’ve always believed mental wellness isn’t about fixing yourself or striving for perfection. It’s about learning how to listen inwardly, creating space for honesty, and allowing care to be woven into everyday life—especially when things feel heavy or uncertain.

As we begin this new year, I invite you to approach mental wellness not as a resolution, but as a relationship. One built on compassion, patience, and presence.

What Is Mental Wellness? More Than the Absence of Struggle

Mental wellness doesn’t mean I—or you—always feel calm, motivated, or joyful. It means you have tools, support, and permission to meet yourself honestly—on the hard days and the hopeful ones.

For many, January can bring mixed emotions. Alongside fresh starts, there may also be grief, exhaustion, pressure, or anxiety about what lies ahead. National Mental Wellness Month exists to remind us that how we feel matters, and that tending to our inner world is just as important as caring for our physical health.

Sometimes, mental wellness begins with something simple: a breath, a pause, a moment of quiet.

Weekly Guided Meditations for National Mental Wellness Month with Karena Dawn

In honor of National Mental Wellness Month, I’m sharing a new weekly meditation series on The Big Silence Podcast—meditations I personally created and guide.

I created these guided meditations as gentle anchors throughout the month—offering a consistent space to slow down, ground yourself, and reconnect.

Rather than asking you to change or push through, these meditations invite you to soften. To notice what’s present. To give yourself permission to rest, reflect, and reset.

What to Expect from the Weekly Meditation Series

  • Weekly guided meditations released throughout January; every Sunday!

  • Short, accessible practices designed for real life

  • Themes rooted in grounding, emotional regulation, self-compassion, and clarity

  • Support whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, hopeful, disconnected, or somewhere in between

Each meditation meets you where you are, reminding you that mental wellness is not something you earn—it’s something you practice.

Why Meditation Supports Mental Health and Emotional Well-Being

Meditation isn’t about clearing your mind or doing it “right.” It’s about creating awareness and space—especially in a world that constantly pulls our attention outward. I always say, "You only need two minutes to make it count." Don't worry about trying to achieve perfection in your meditation. It's just about showing up for yourself.

Research continues to show that meditation can support mental wellness by helping reduce stress, increase emotional regulation, and improve overall resilience. But beyond the science, meditation offers something deeply human: a chance to come home to yourself.

Even a few minutes of intentional stillness can help interrupt patterns of overwhelm and reconnect you with your inner voice.

You’re Not Alone: Mental Health Support Through Community

Mental wellness doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s nurtured through community, conversation, and shared humanity.

At The Big Silence, my mission has always been to break the silence around mental health and remind people they are not alone in what they’re feeling. This meditation series is an extension of that mission—a quiet, supportive offering for anyone who needs it.

Whether you listen to one meditation or join us each week, know that showing up for your mental health in any capacity is meaningful.

Begin Your Mental Wellness Journey Where You Are

As we move through National Mental Wellness Month, we invite you to release the pressure to have it all figured out.

Begin where you are. Breathe where you are. Care for yourself where you are.

You can listen to the weekly meditation series on The Big Silence Podcast, available wherever you stream podcasts.

Your mental wellness matters—and you deserve support every step of the way.
